Private First Class Charles Richard Eppleman was a resident of Gloucester City, NJ. He went by his middle name of Richard. He was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division.
Private First Class Eppleman was killed in action while fighting the enemy in the “Punchbowl” area of North Korea on September 30, 1951. Another local member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, Private First Class Warren Arnold Zinn of Oaklyn, NJ, had been killed in action in the “Punchbowl” ten days earlier.
Private First Class Eppleman was buried at Beverly National Cemetery on January 17, 1952 — Plot D O 1046G.
He was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Service Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Korean War Service Medal.
