Charles G. Cotton
Lieutenant Commander Charles G. Cotton was born in North Carolina in 1887. He was a veteran of World War I. By 1920 he had married and moved to Norfolk, VA, working as a marine engineer. The family later moved to Newport, VA, where Charles Cotton worked as a machinist in a shipyard. By 1930 the Cotton family included three daughters, Alice E., Mary J., and Lila Lee Cotton, and were living at 71 Main Street in Newport, Warwick County, Virginia.
The Cotton family moved to Collingswood, NJ around 1939, residing at 521 Jessamine Avenue. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Harrellsville, N.C.
Lieutenant Commander Cotton passed away in the Marine Hospital in Baltimore, MD on March 2, 1949. Funeral services were held at Foster’s Funeral Home at Haddon and Lees Avenue in Collingswood, after which he was buried in Gates, NC. He was survived by his wife, Mary E.; daughters; and two brothers, Curtis B. Cotton of Galveston, TX, and James C. Cotton.
Charles G. Cotton Dies, Coast Guard Officer

Lt. Cmdr. Charles G. Cotton, of 521 Jessamine avenue, Collingswood, died yesterday in the Marine hospital, Baltimore, after a long illness. He served in the Coast Guard. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Harrellsville, N.C., and was a Collingswood resident 10 years.
Surviving are his widow, Mary E.; three daughters, Mrs. R. J. Wade, DeRidder, La.; Miss LilaLee Cotton and Mrs. C. G. Newman, both of Collingswood; two grandchildren and two brothers, Curtis R., Galveston, and James C., Harrellsville.
Friends may call tomorrow night at Foster’s funeral home, Haddon and Lees avenues, Collingswood. Funeral services and burial will be in Gates, N.C., Saturday.
