Private Carl H. Barth was born on January 15, 1923, to Charles Henry Barth and the former Mable E. Wintrode. It appears that illness took Charles Barth in the 1930s, as the family was scattered in the 1930 Census and the 1940 Census shows him to be deceased. The 1940 Census shows Carl H. Barth living with his widowed mother Mable, brother Joseph N., and sisters Thelma and Charlotte at 215 Linden Street in Camden, New Jersey. Carl H. Barth was then working for the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Carl H. Barth enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1941. He trained at Fort Slocum, NY until March of that year, and was then sent to Hawaii, where he served until December of 1942, when he was sent to Guadalcanal. He was killed in action while serving in the United States Army in the South Pacific on August 9, 1943.

Carl Barth was survived by his mother, Mrs. Mable E. Barth, of 215 Linden Street in Camden, NJ. His body was returned home aboard the USAT George W.G. Boyce in 1948, and he was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, NJ on June 24th of that year.
