Camden People - Theodore M. Balabuch

THEODORE MICHAEL "TED" BALABUCHRTHUR was born in 1960 to Theodore J. Balabuch and his wife, the former Betty Valentine. The grandson of a Polish immigrant, Josef Balabuch, who had come to America prior to World War I, he grew up at 1484 South 10th Street in Camden's Whitman Park neighborhood, three blocks away from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with his sisters Carol and Donna. He went to grade school at St. Joseph's, then graduated from the Camden County Vocational Technical School in Pennsauken. He then attended Camden County College, and from 1977 through 1981 was a coach for the Whitman Park Tigers youth football team. His father was also a coach for the Tigers in these years.

In the 1980s Ted Balabuch enlisted in the United States Army. On August 17, 1985 he married Linda Ann Zeisloft. The Balabuchs were blessed with three children, sons Theodore Jr. and Matthew, and daughter Kristen Elizabeth. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1990. The Balabuchs lived in Camden's Fairview section into the mid-1990s before moving to Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

In 1995 Ted Balabuch was appointed to the Camden Fire Department. He worked as a firefighter for a number of years, then was promoted to the Fire Marshall's office, where he served as a Fire Prevention Specialist. One of his tasks while in this post was conducting inspections of commercial and multi-unit residential buildings.

In June of 2009 Ted Balabuch's father passed away. Not long afterward Ted was diagnosed with lung cancer, while his daughter Kristen continued to struggle with a rare medical disorder that had plagued her since birth. Ted worked at the Fire Department as long as health would permit him, finally going out on pension on February 1, 2013. He had completed 18 years of service. His friends, family, and the firefighter and EMS community rallied around Ted in his time of need, and a benefit was held for him on August 11, 2012.

Sadly, Ted and Linda Balabuch's daughter Kristen passed away on July 31, 2015. Ted lost his battle with cancer on December 21, 2015. He is survived by his wife, sons, mother, sisters and their husbands, and a large extended family, not to mention scores of friends among first responders in Camden and vicinity. He is buried along with his father and his daughter at St. Joseph Cemetery in Gloucester Township, New Jersey.

Kristen Elizabeth Balabuch

AGE: 25 • Cherry Hill

On July 31, 2015, God called Kristen Balabuch home ending her lifelong battle from a rare medical disorder. Kristen was surrounded by her loved ones at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC. Kristen loved her family and friends and academics. Her interest were reading novels especially written by Jodi Piccoult. Kristen loved music and singing. Kristen also loved baking specialty desserts.

Born in Philadelphia, Kristen was a resident of Cherry Hill and a 2009 graduate of Cherry Hill West where she was a member of the National Honor Society after achieving a perfect GPA during her high school years. She then attended Rutgers University majoring in microbiology and maintaining a 3.5 GPA while bravely battling her disease.

Kristen Elizabeth is the beloved and cherished daughter of Theodore M. and Linda Ann Balabuch (nee Zeisloft). She is the loving sister of Theodore Michael Jr. and Matthew Joseph Balabuch. She is also the dear granddaughter of Betty and the late, Theodore J. Balabuch and

Christine Arbour and Ronald Zeisloft, Sr. Kristen is also lovingly survived by many aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 PM and again Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 402 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, NJ where Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday morning following the viewing at 10:30 AM. Her Committal Service will follow the mass at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Blackwood, NJ. Arrangements Healey Funeral Home (www.healeyfuneralhomes.com).. There will be a viewing again Tuesday morning from 8:45 - 9:45 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1010 Liberty Street, Camden followed by his Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Theodore Michael Balabuch

AGE: 54 • Cherry Hill

Theodore Michael Balabuch passed away on December 21, 2015 surrounded by his loving family after a four year battle with lung cancer. Theodore is the beloved husband of Linda Ann (nee Zeisloft). He is the loving father of Theodore M. Jr., Matthew J. and the late, Kristen E. Balabuch. Theodore is the devoted son of Betty Balabuch and the late Theodore J. Balabuch. He is the loving brother of Carol and Tom Buckingham and Donna and Bill Van Sciver. He is also loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ted attended St. Joseph's Grade School in Camden and graduated from Pennsauken Vocational School and Camden County College. He coached football for the Whitman Park Tigers from 1977-1981. Ted was honorably discharged in 1990 from the United States Army after completing his military service. Ted also served as a Camden City Firefighter and he retired as an inspector from the Fire Marshall's office. Ted's hobbies included painting, poetry, chess, crabbing and fishing.
