EDWARD
A. PIKE JR. was born on February 9, 1956 to Edward A. and Alma
Pike. He lived in and around Woodbury for many years, and by
1975 made his home at 1372 Burkett Avenue in West Deptford. In
the late 1980s he was hired as a boiler operator by the
Housing
Authority of the City of Camden and spent the rest of his
life working for that agency, for about twenty in a supervisory
capacity. Ed Pike was married at one time, a daughter came from
this marriage, which had ended in the early 1990s. Around 1993
he began a relationship with a co-worker, Mary Foster, which
ended when she died of cancer in November of 2010. The following
year Ed Pike was diagnosed with lung cancer. He continued
working until mid-December, when his illness made that
impossible. Ed Pike passed away on January 13, 2012. He was
predeceased by his parents, and survived by his daughter and
granddaughter. |

I
had the privilege of working with Ed Pike at the Housing Authority
of the City of Camden for almost 20 years. He was a hard worker,
extremely knowledgeable in his field, and more than that, was an
honest and a good man. He made the best of a job situation where
the cards were stacked against him, and despite that, never
faltered in his duty as a public servant. He will be missed by
many outside his immediate family, and I am one of that many.
