Sergeant Burton A. Bingham was born on September 15, 1918. He was a 1936 graduate of Collingswood High School. He lived at 219 Lakeview Drive in Collingswood, and worked for the Camden Fire Insurance Company before enlisting in the service on December 8, 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Carson, CO, and saw service in North Africa and England. He married May B. Mortensen while stationed at Camp Carson in the fall of 1943.
Sergeant Bingham was wounded on June 6, 1944, during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, while serving with the 237th Combat Engineer Battalion. He died of his wounds on June 10. After the war, his body was returned to the United States, and he was buried at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, NJ.
Besides his wife, Sergeant Burton Bingham was survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Bingham of 8 West Knight Avenue, Collingswood, NJ, and a sister, Mrs. Ann Burke. He also left three brothers, Frederick, Grafton, and William, all of Haddon Heights, NJ.

Sgt. Burton Bingham Funeral Tomorrow

Military rites will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. for Sgt. Burton A. Bingham, 25, of 8 West Knight avenue, Collingswood, who was killed in action in Normandy. Services will be held at a funeral home at 523 Haddon avenue, Collingswood. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Burial will be in Harleigh cemetery. A graduate of Collingswood High school, Sergeant Bingham was employed at the Camden Fire Insurance Association prior to enlisting Dec. 8, 1942. He was assigned to the 237th Combat Engineers and saw service in North Africa and England. He was wounded in France on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and died four days later. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Anna Bingham, and a sister, Mrs. Ann Burke, both of Collingswood, and three brothers, Frederick, Grafton and William, all of Haddon township.
