Bruce O’Neal Somers was born in Pennsylvania on August 8, 1921. He had completed four years of high school and was married when, on February 27, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army at Camden, NJ.

Technical Sergeant Somers died of wounds received in combat on the island of Cebu in the Philippines on April 16, 1945. He was brought home after the war and was buried at Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bruce Somers is remembered on the Collingswood, New Jersey World War II war memorial.
