Private Anthony Monzo Jr. was born on December 25, 1924. He was the son of Antonio and Filomena Monzo, who owned and operated a truck and fruit farm on the White Horse Pike in Waterford Township, NJ, in the 1920s and early 1930s. The 1940 census shows the family living on Chew Road. Anthony was the second of five children, coming after Fred and before Francis, Louis, and Rita. Private Anthony Monzo was inducted into the United States Army on December 13, 1943. He was assigned to Company K, 315th Infantry Regiment, a unit of the 79th Infantry Division. This unit saw considerable combat in France during the Normandy campaign. After being pulled out of the line for rest and refitting in the fall of 1944, the 79th was shifted south to join the 7th Army.

On November 17, 1944, the 79th Infantry Division began crossing the Vesouze River in order to take the town of Fremonville the following day. Private Anthony Monzo was killed in action during the fighting in and around Fremonville. The town was taken the following day, November 19, 1944. Private Anthony Monzo was survived by his parents, siblings, Uncle John Monzo, Aunt Janice Monzo, and cousins John and Marie Monzo. His body was returned to New Jersey after the war, and he was buried at Berlin Cemetery in Berlin, NJ, on May 22, 1948.
