Private Albert T. Schleicher was born in 1898 in the Polish region of the old Russian Empire. His parents, Joseph and Pauline Schleicher’s native language was German. They left Russia, first coming to Canada, where a daughter, Elizabeth was born, around 1904. By 1908 the Schleicher family was living in New Jersey, where children Richard and Anna were born. By 1910 they had settled on Jackson Avenue in the North Merchantville section of Pennsauken, New Jersey. Joseph Schleicher was a cabinetmaker and would eventually find work at the Victor Talking Machine Company factory in Camden.

Albert T. Schleicher entered the military in August of 1918, joining the ground aviation service. He spent two months at Camp Humphreys, Virginia, dying there from Spanish influenza on October 9, 1918. Private Schleicher was brought home. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Delaware Township (present day Cherry Hill), New Jersey. Schleicher Avenue in Pennsauken was named in his honor.

Albert Schleicher was survived by Joseph & Pauline Schleicher of 5 Jackson Avenue, Pennsauken, New Jersey, their daughters Clara, Elizabeth, and Anna, and their son Richard. Joseph Schleicher passed away in 1928, Pauline ten years later. The family still resided on Jackson Avenue as late as April 1930.
