Lieutenant Addison E. Moore was a 1936 graduate of Collingswood (NJ) High School. He entered the Navy as an Ensign in 1939. Prior to entering the Navy, Moore was a student at Glassboro State Teachers College. He started his air training at Dallas, TX, and completed it at Pensacola, FL. He was sent to Hawaii, and was serving aboard the USS Pennsylvania when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

After Pearl Harbor, Addison Moore was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. He was stationed in Pensacola, FL, in 1943 and 1944. He was promoted to Lieutenant and sent to Vero Beach, FL. The radio officer of his air group, he was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Franklin CV-13.

Lieutenant Addison E. Moore was killed when the aircraft carrier USS Franklin CV-13 was hit by a Japanese aircraft on March 19, 1945. Shipfitter Second Class Joseph A. Barron, of Gloucester City, NJ, and Seaman Second Class John Martin Peterson, of Camden, NJ, were also lost in the attack.

Four Camden County Men Among the Latest Listed as Dead in War

Six killed and two missing comprise the casualties announced for the South Jersey area yesterday by the War and Navy Departments. In all cases, next of kin have previously been notified, and in case of divergence from this list, the last word sent next of kin is always the appropriate final authority.

Killed:

Lt. Addison E. Moore, 27, of 14 Albatross Road, Audubon Village (Audubon Park)

Moore was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer C. Moore, and the husband of the former Muriel Apgar, of Plainfield. He was reported killed in action in the Pacific area. Pilot of a Navy fighter plane, he was in charge of a gun crew on the USS Pennsylvania during the Pearl Harbor attack. The family formerly resided in Woodlynne.

Prior to entering the Navy in 1939, Moore was a student at the Glassboro State Teachers College, having previously been graduated from Collingswood HS. He started his air training at Dallas TX, and completed it at Pensacola FL. The radio officer of his air group, he received a military burial at sea.

Lieutenant Moore is also survived by a brother, David, and a sister, Alita. — Camden Courier-Post, May 3, 1945
