Introduction
Abraham M. Ellis was the president of the Broadway Amusement Company, which owned the Broadway Theater in Camden, in the 1930s. He also was a partner, with Martin Ellis and Louis Rovner, in the ownership of the Liberty Theater on Mount Ephraim Avenue at Everett Street, in 1936.

CAUSE OF MOVIE FIRE TO REMAIN MYSTERY
The cause of the fire which destroyed the interior of the Broadway Theatre Sunday will remain a mystery.
After a personal investigation yesterday, Fire Chief John H. Lennox, said:
“We can’t tell what caused the fire. It started on the stage or somewhere close to the stage. The fire was too far advanced when the first firemen arrived to tell what caused it. It might have been a cigarette, or defective wiring or some other cause.”
The damage was estimated officially by Abraham Ellis, president of the Broadway Amusement Company, operators of the movie house, at $85,000 yesterday. It had been estimated previously by insurance men at approximately $100,000.
Ellis announced that the theatre will be rebuilt and that an architect was busy on plans for the new theatre yesterday.
