PRIVATE FIRST CLASS WILLIAM I. SMITH JR. was born in 1924 to William and Alice Smith. The Smith family was renting a home at 2414 4th Avenue in Woodlynne NJ. William Sr. was a driver for an ice and coal company. William Smith was inducted in to the U.S. Army, and assigned to the 467th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. This unit landed in France on D-Day. and fought in five major campaigns. William Smith died while serving in Germany on May 5, 1945. He was survived by his parents, brother David T. , and an uncle, Thomas F. Smith. |
