STAFF SERGEANT JOSEPH J. SAMPOLSKI was born on June 22, 1921, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sampolski of 135 Forest Avenue in Runnemede NJ. He was single and had a grammar school education when he was inducted into the Army at Camden NJ on July 7th of 1942. The Army recorded (and still records) his name as "Sampolske". When Staff Sergeant Sampolski was killed in action on October 7, 1944 during the Battle for Hill 587 near Sassoleone, Italy, the Camden Courier-Post reported that he was survived by his wife Marie Sampolski, of 300 Essex Street in Gloucester City NJ.. Besides his wife and parents, he left two brothers, Louis and Edward, who was then serving in the United States Navy, and four sisters. |
