PRIVATE GLENN BARTL was the son of Glenn and Florence Bartl. He was born in Pennsylvania im 1920. With brother Virgil and sisters Gertrude and Florence, the Bartl family lived in the late 1930s at 14 West Third avenue in Runnemede NJ. His father was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Black Horse Pike Post T.F.H. No. 3324. Glenn Bartl attended Audubon High School, and was a member of the New Jersey National Guard. He was called to national service in 1940. Florence Bartl passed away in 1941, and her husband moved the rest of the family to Philadelphia sometime after April of 1942. Private Glenn Bartl was stationed at Fort Lewis WA when he was accidentally shot and killed while on maneuvers near Vancouver WA on May 25, 1943. He was survived by his father, sisters, and brother Virgil, who was then training at the submarine school at New London CT. He was brought back to the east coast, and buried at Philadelphia National Cemetery, on June 25, 1943. |
