PRIVATE JAMES T. DOUGHERTY
was born in 1911 to Dennis and Catherine Dougherty. His father worked as
a farm laborer, and the family lived in Cinnaminson NJ before moving to
832 Cinnaminson Avenue, Palmyra NJ. He attended Palmyra High School. In
1927 he started working for the Union News Company's news stand at the
ferry terminal in Camden, where he was well known to the commuters who
used the ferry. He had wed, and with his wife Marion, lived at 70 Harding avenue in
Oaklyn NJ.
Marian Dougherty worked as a teacher at Collingswood Junior High
School.
James Dougherty
was inducted into the United States Army in August of 1942. He was listed as missing in
action on February 7, 1943, and this
was reported in the March 12, 1943 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. He was
declared dead by the Army in August of 1943.
James Dougherty was survived by his wife, parents, four sisters, and two
brothers.
