PRIVATE CURT A. ARNOLD JR.
was the son of Curt and Lillie Arnold. He was born in 1924, and raised in Magnolia
NJ, where his parents had made their home at 427 Evesham Avenue since before
1920, and were members of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, then at
Warwick Road and Washington Avenue. The elder Arnold was a carpenter. Curt
Arnold Jr. attended public schools in Magnolia, and had completed two
years of high school at Haddon Heights (NJ) High School prior to leaving
to take a job at the Photo Developing Company in Camden NJ. He was
inducted into the United States Army on March 9, 1943.
After being inducted into the service, Curt Arnold Junior was killed in action
on January 31, 1944 at Anzio, Italy. His death was reported on February 29, 1944, not
long
after the landings at Anzio. He was
survived by his parents, brother Robert, and sisters Mrs. Eleanor Rowand,
Miss Mildred Arnold, and Miss Lillian Arnold, all of Magnolia.
Curt Arnold Jr. was
brought home to the United States after he war, and was buried at
Locustwood Cemetery in what was then Delaware Township (present-day
Cherry Hill) NJ, where he now rests next to his parents and sister
Lillian.
