SERGEANT KENNETH LAWRENCE
MYERS was born in 1923 to Harold M. and Mildred A. Myers. His father was
a carpenter. In 1930 the family included older brother Harold, younger
sister Virginia E., and younger brother Robert W. Myers. The family
lived at 204 Chestnut Avenue in Laurel Springs NJ. Kenneth Myers was a
graduate of Haddon Heights (NJ) High School, and was employed by the
Bell Telephone Company prior to being inducted into the Army on February
9, 1943. Qualifying for flight duty, he trained as an aerial gunner and
as a toggleer. He
was killed when the bomber in which he was a crewmember of crashed 10
miles northeast of Georgetown SC on Sunday, October 30, 1943. Sergeant
Myers died of a skull fracture suffered in the crash. Also killed in the
same plane crash was Second Lieutenant Walter J. Puchalski of Syracuse
NY. Eight other crewmembers escaped with minor injuries. He was survived by his parents,
brother PFC Harold Meyers, then with the Signal Corps at Gainesville FL,
brother Robert, then 15 and at home, and a sister, Virginia 18 and at
home.
