ROBERT H. HILLMAN was born in New Jersey on May 2, 1917 to Crawford and Minerva Rich Hillman. The Hillmans had moved to the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia prior to the January 1920 census, Crawford Hillman, then 36, was working as a lighting engineer. By 1930 the Hillman family owned a home at 402 Second Avenue in Haddon Heights NJ. The elder Hillman was a traveling salesman in the machinery business. Also in the Hillman household in 1930 was 79 year-old grandfather Henry Rich, who was still working, as a night watchman in a manufacturing plant. Robert Hillman died of cancer at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 2, 1944 while serving as member of the United States Navy. He had been ill for eighteen months at the time of his death. Robert H. Hillman was survived by his parents. His father passed away in 1962.
