STAFF SERGEANT ALBERT E.
CAHILL was born in 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. Albert T. Cahill. His early
years were spent in Camden NJ, where the family, in 1930, rented a home
at 3020 Porter Road, in the Yorkship Square section of Camden NJ. His
father worked as a toolmaker at the RCA-Victor plant in Camden. The
family later moved to 213 First Avenue, in Haddon Heights NJ.
After
enlisting in the Unites States Army, Albert Cahill qualified for flight
duty, and trained as a tail-gunner on a bomber. He was killed in action
while serving America on September, 1943 when the B-17F he was in,
#41-24907 also known as "Stinky Jr." was lost. His death was reported in the
October 20, 1943 edition of the Camden Courier-Post.
At
wars end, a local sportsman's club named its new archery field in the
memory of Albert Cahill, on October 21, 1945. In time, his body was returned to
the United States, and he was buried at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden NJ.
Albert E. Cahill was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert T.
Cahill, of 213 First Avenue, Haddon Heights NJ, sister, Irene, and an
uncle, Milton Cahill, who was a Camden police officer.
