PRIVATE FIRST CLASS WILLIAM J. BODDINGHAM born in 1925 to William and Anna Boddingham, of 402 Hunter Street in Gloucester City NJ. The Bodddingham family had lived in Gloucester City for many years, and a William Boddingham had been a Gloucester City fireman in 1888 and 1889. In 1930 his father worked as a house painter. At the time of the 1930 census, there were two other children in the family, sister Anna, 6, and brother John, then 2 years old. After the census was taken anther sister, Mary, and two brothers, Robert and Joseph, were born. The family later moved to 514 Powell Street, also in Gloucester City. William Boddingham was inducted into the United States Army late in the war, and was serving with the 29th Infantry Regiment in occupied Germany when he died on May 27, 1946. Younger brother John Boddingham was killed in car accident in nearby Thorofare NJ on July 23, 1949. |
