Albert Leroy Parker

PRIVATE ALBERT L. PARKER was born in 1924 in Camden NJ. He was the son of Edward and Olivia Giberson Parker. His early years were spent in Camden, as the Parker family lived with the the maternal grandparents, Albert and Nellie Giberson, at 463 Liberty Street. The family later moved to Gloucester City NJ, where Albert Parker attended Gloucester High School. He joined the Marines on February 22, 1943 after his high school graduation. He went overseas the following May.

Albert Parker was killed in action during the assault on Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll, November 20-23, 1943.  19 at the time of his death, he was survived by his father, Mr. Edward L. Parker, of 168 South Burlington Street, Gloucester City NJ, two sisters, Miss Olivia Parker and Mrs. Catherine Johnson, a brother, Edward Parker who had been recently honorably discharged from the Army, and his grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Norris, of Gloucester Heights, in Gloucester City NJ.

Albert Parker was brought home aboard the USAT Joseph V. Connolly , arriving October 27, 1947. He was buried on November 1, 1947 at Evergreen Cemetery in Camden NJ.
