PRIVATE ALBERT C. HOBBS JR. was born in 1916 in Camden NJ to Albert C. and Mary Hobbs. The Hobbs family was living on Fillmore Street in Camden NJ in January of 1920. Albert Hobbs Sr. was then working at an engraving company. By April of 1930 the Hobbs family had left Camden, purchasing a house at 914 Somerset Street in Gloucester City NJ. Albert C. Hobbs Jr. was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School in Gloucester City. He had married, and with his wife Viola had a son, Albert C. Hobbs III. Albert and Viola Hobbs made there home at 608 Sherwood Street in Gloucester City. He was working as a shop foreman for the Graphic Arts Engraving Company in Philadelphia when called to service on April 15, 1944. Private Albert C. Hobbs Jr. was killed in action on January 26, 1945 in action in Alsace at Kaysersburgh, near the Weis River. He was survived by his wife, son, parents, two brothers, Henry and Charles, and three sisters, Mary, Jean, and Jacqueline. Albert Hobbs was brought home in April of 1944. He was buried at New St. Mary's Cemetery in Bellmawr NJ. |
