PRIVATE ROBERT W. BRITTON was the son of Mrs. Jane V. Britton, of 1201 Chapel Avenue in Delaware Township (Cherry Hill) NJ. He was born in New Jersey in 1918, had a grammar school education, was unmarried and working as a truck driver when inducted into the United States Army on May 11, 1942 at Fort Dix NJ. He volunteered for parachute training. After completing the parachute course at Fort Benning GA, he returned home on leave in the fall of 1942. Private Robert W. Britton parachuted into Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was killed in action on that day. He rests at the Normandy American Cemetery in St. Laurent-sur-Mer France. |
