PRIVATE FIRST CLASS HARRY D. STRUNK was born April 11, 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Strunk. His father worked for the Wickes Engineering and Construction Company. He was junior at Merchantville (NJ) when he enlisted in the Marines in May of 1943, going overseas in January of 1944. He also had been a member of Niagara Fire Company in Merchantville. Private First Class Harry Strunk died of wounds received in combat during the battle for Saipan on July 5, 1944. Harry Strunk was brought home to the United States after the war, and he was interred at Locustwood cemetery in what was then Delaware Township NJ. He is memorialized on the Delaware Township War Memorial. Delaware Township changed its name to Cherry Hill in 1961. He was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Strunk, of 10 Orchard Street in what is now Cherry Hill NJ, and a sister, Jeanne. |
