SEAMAN SECOND CLASS
EVERETT SHOCKLEY DAVIS was born in 1925, the seventh child born to Elmer
W. and Bertha Davis. In 1930 Elmer Davis was operating a truck farm in
Delaware Township NJ, and besides Everett, there were seven other
brothers and sisters at home. Oldest sisters Anna and Elizabeth had gone
to work as a movie usher and department store salesgirl,
respectively. The other children were Ruth, Edith, Elmer Jr.,
Earl, and Delores.
Everett Davis was 17 when he was killed
in action on August 9,
1942 during the Battle of Savo Island. He was survived by his parents,
who had moved to a house at 230 Wilbur Avenue
in Delaware Township NJ; brothers and sisters. Delaware Township became Cherry Hill in
1961.
