PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JOHN JAMES DAVIS was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davis. His early years were spent in Audubon NJ, where he was a member of the Audubon High School swimming team. Before his senior year, his family moved to 59A Berlin Road in Clementon NJ. He graduated from Lower Camden County Regional High School. in 1941. He served as the lifeguard at Pine Lake for three years. John James Davis entered the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He was killed in action on Okinawa on June 6, 1945. He was survived by his parents, and a brother, Sergeant Harry Davis USMC, then stationed in Phoenix AZ. His mother was at one time secretary of the United Mothers Club of Clementon and Vicinity, and was also active in the Fort Dix Camp and Hospital council.. Private First Class Davis' death was reported in the July 25, 1945 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. |
