STAFF SERGEANT JOHN McCAUGHEY was born in Pennsylvania in 1917 to Robert and Ida McCaughey. The family moved to New jersey in the early 1920s, and in 1930 they were renting a house at 503 Kings Highway in Brooklawn NJ. At the time of the 1930 census. Robert McCaughey was the working as a salesman for a tea company, daughters Edna, 19, and Annette, 16, had gone to work as assemblers in the radio industry. After the two sisters came Robert Jr., John, Richard, Hugh, and Alexander. John McCaughey was inducted into the United States Army. He was assigned to a military police unit. He was killed in action in the Philippines on May 3, 1945. |
