Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. A basement fire on Hallowell Lane in the Tamarack Apartments, formerly known as Ferry Station Apartments. The resident of a basement apartment left his unit with three dogs (two puppies and their mother) inside, and a pot on the oven. Neighbors saw smoke from window and called Fire Department. First due Squad 7 arrived, made forcible entry and rescued the two puppies… Mama Dog got loose and left the scene. One puppy was brought out on a leash and was taken care of by Fireman Dennis Delgado of Engine 10. The other puppy was chained to a table in the kitchen. Fireman Miguel Ramos of Squad 7 cut the chain and carried the dog to safety. With no leash to secure the dog and CFD personnel engaged in fighting the fire, I took the pup and carried him until Animal Control arrived and the puppies were taken to Camden County Animal Shelter… there was a lot of one-handed photography on this job! This fire threw a lot of smoke, but fortunately for all concerned was an easy knock-down. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
