Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. After walking the dog and taking care of a few things I headed back into Camden late afternoon and stopped at Squad 7 on Kaighn Avenue… trying to get stuff done and make a few stops prior to going out west for a couple of months on May 21. The new Camden County dispatch system had gone live, rendering my old scanner useless. With the switchover in radios, the only way I was able to catch any work was to be in town that week. While at Squad 7, I took what has to be my favorite photos of the year, as Fireman Joel Thompson got a surprise visit from his daughter. Anyway, two runs… a fender bender in the parking lot of the CVS pharmacy at Mt. Ephraim and Atlantic Avenue, the site of the old Bruno's bar and restaurant, for you real old-timers, and a fire at Northgate II, which was handled quickly inside the building. The last four photos were taken the next evening… two of Asante Wilson at Squad 7 and the two at the East Camden firehouse on Federal Street. These would be the last Camden Fire Department photos I would take until I returned from my trip West in mid-July. In August, I obtained a scanner capable of receiving Fire calls on the new county system, and I got back in the saddle, so to speak. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
