Camden Fire Department - 1465, 1467 & 1469 South 4th Street

At 1:56 AM on June 12, 2012 the Camden Fire Department responded to the report of a fire in the 1400 block of South 4th Street in South Camden. 1465, 1467, and 1469 South 4th Street were two-story row dwellings, three long abandoned but still-standing homes on South 4th between Atlantic and Lansdowne Avenues. Fire had previously ravaged the buildings on May 29, 2011. A little more than a year later, someone with no regard for the safety of others lit another fire here.

When the Battalion Chief arrived, all three buildings were fully involved. The truck companies were set up for ladder pipe operations with 2 1/2" hand lines. All Hands were placed in service, and with no occupied structures at risk a defensive operation was conducted. The fire was brought under control, and there were no injuries to firefighters. This was the second working fire in less then 24 hours in the City of Camden.

An emergency demolition order was issued by the City and the three buildings were razed a few days later. Many thanks to Ted Aurig of www.newjerseyfiregrounds.com who covered this fire.
