Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. Extremely dry conditions in late March and the early March of 2012 led to a good number of grass fires in Camden and elsewhere, including a forest fire in the Pine Barrens of Burlington County and lower Camden County. A simple act of tossing a lighted cigarette butt often was enough to spark a fire, on this day in Camden at least three appear to have been started in this fashion, one at Haddon Avenue between Federal Street and Mickle Boulevard, and two in the exact same location at North 11th Street and Newton Avenue. I was in my car when the call came over the radio for the second fire at this location, and arrived on scene to find Engine Company 1 operating, with Captain Danny Stratton and firefighters Israel Velez, Jeff Swan, and Larry Reese. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
