Camden
Fire Department |
On May 11, 2010 a new mural was unveiled on the westward facing wall at Fire Headquarters, 4 North 3rd Street, Camden, New Jersey. Pictures from the dedication ceremony, which took place that day, can be seen by clicking here. The mural, which had been three years since originally conceived, is a glass and tile mosaic mural, 15 feet high by 25 feet long. Resident Artist Vox Parvis, and Camden Creative Arts High School Art Instructors Bruce Grefe and Elbrite Brown led the project, which saw Camden Creative Arts High School Visual Arts students, grades 9 through 12, design and created the mural, dedicated to the Camden City Fire Department. The mural depicts a fire fighter rescuing a child. Monsignor Michael Mannion of the Archdiocese of Camden was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition. The dedication ceremony included musical selections by Creative Arts High School students and remarks from film actor Brian Dennehy, who had as of that time appeared in over 180 movies and television episodes, as well as many theatrical productions, for which he has won two Tony awards. On February 7, 2012 a plaque was presented commemorating the mural. Attending the presentations were Monsignor Mannion, Mr. Dennehy, Vox Parvis, current Chief of Department Michael Harper, Deputy Chiefs Daniel Rossi and Michael DiPascale, and other interested parties. The pictures below are from the plaque presentation ceremony.
