Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department called Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. At approximately 10:50 PM on November 28, 2011 a brush fire was reported on Park Boulevard, and Squad Company 7 was dispatched. While approaching the reported location a large plume of smoke was observed coming from the rear of 1522 Park Boulevard. Battalion Chief Sam Balakas called for additional units. All hands were placed in service. Forced entry was made into 1522 and 1520 Park, which was also vacant, Defensive operations were conducted due to poor conditions, and the fire was knocked down with no injuries. I was in my car on Davis Street just below Copewood Street when the first call came over the radio. I got to the scene pretty quickly, arriving just as Squad 7 was setting up, and took over 300 photos, from the beginning of operations to their conclusion. The photos are presented below in the order in which they were taken, and in sections during the minute they were taken. By the very nature of the job at hand, things move very quickly… in the first full minute I took 13 pictures, 13 more in the second minute, and 15 in the third, 16 in the fourth, and 21 in the fifth minute of operations. You will literally see what I saw on the average of every 5.2 seconds. Oddly enough, after leaving this scene, I was literally within 10 feet of the spot where I heard the first call, when another call came over, for a helicopter landing at Camden High School's football field. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil

At this point, with operations well in hand in the front of the property, I decided to go around to the rear in order to document what was taking place there. |
