PRIVATE WILLIAM F. ASH JR was born in Pennsylvania on June 25, 1924 to William and Anna Ash. In April of 1930 the Ash family lived in Bellmawr NJ, where William Sr. was a farmer. The family included a seven year old cousin, Elmer Tompkins, and a younger brother Stanley Ash, born late in 1929. The family later moved to Burlington NJ.

Inducted into the Army, William Ash was assigned to 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. Private Ash died of wounds received in combat on December 19, 1943. His death was reported in the evening edition of the Saturday February 5, 1944 Camden Courier-Post which indicated that he died in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Ash, then of Bustleton Road in Burlington NJ.

After the war in Europe had ended, William F. Ash Jr. was returned home, and he was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly NJ on September 24, 1948.
