PRIVATE FIRST CLASS WILLIAM J. CARVELL was the son of John D. and Pearl Carvell. His father had moved to Camden from Pennsylvania. His parents had married and were boarding at 713 Florence Street in January of 1920, the home of Thomas and Bertha Smith. William Carvell was born in the early 1920s. His parents eventually made their home at 2307 South 7th Street. William Carvell was inducted into the Army from Camden NJ. He had worked at a chain grocery store prior to his induction into the United States Army. Private First Class Carvell was killed in action during the summer of 1944. His death was reported in the September 19, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. He was brought home to New Jersey in the spring of 1948. On May 22, 1948 William Carvell was laid to rest at New Camden Cemetery in Camden NJ. He was survived by his parents, sisters Margaret and Norma, and brother Lawrence Carvell. |
