PRIVATE
WESLEY WRIGHT was born in New Jersey in 1919 to John Wright and his
wife, the former Beatrice Chadwick. The family is shown living in
Gloucester City, New Jersey in the 1920 and 1930 Censuses. The 1940
Census shows him living on Lindsey Avenue in Runnemede, New Jersey with
his parents, John and Beatrice Wright and his sister Dorothy, 14. Five
older siblings had by this time left home. Wesley Wright was then
working as a laborer in a factory. He had attended high
school for three years. Wesley Wright had married and living in Gloucester County
when inducted into the United States Army on May 11, 1944 at Fort Dix
NJ.
Sent overseas
as a replacement, Private Wright was killed not far from Lanstein,
Germany on April 13, 1945, as the 83rd Infantry Division was taking the
city of Barby. He was survived by his wife Sarah E Wright, who was
living in El Monte, California after the war had ended.
Before
Wesley Wright had gone to the front, he had spent time with a family in
Terwinselen, a small town in the Netherlands, and had given the mother
and daughter a bracelet made of Dutch coins. This family has been
looking after his grave at Margaraten ever since.
