PRIVATE ROBERT J. COWEN was the son of Edgar and Catherine Cowen. He was born in Camden NJ on May 6, 1926 and had a brother, Clifford, and a sister, June Marie. The Cowen family family lived at 133 North 26th Street in East Camden. Edgar Cowen supported his family by working as a machinist in a radio factory. Robert Cowen graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, on Federal Street in Camden NJ, in June of 1944. He worked for the Wicks Engineering Company in Camden before being drafted into the Army on October 28, 1944. Sent overseas in February of 1945, Private Cowen was killed in action while serving our nation in Germany on April 21, 1945. The body of Robert Cowen was returned home to New Jersey after the war. On December 9, 1948 Robert Cowen was laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken NJ. He was survived by his parents and a sister, June Marie Cowen. |
