OSCAR R. LETTS JR. was
born June 10, 1917 in New Jersey to Oscar R. Letts and Marie E. Kraus
Letts. In January of 1920 the family lived at 45-1/2 Kings Highway East
in Haddonfield NJ. Oscar Sr. worked as a clerk for the Pennsylvania
Railroad, and he was still with the railroad through April of 1930, as a
stockman. At the time of the 1930 census, a brother, Edwin H. Letts had
been born, and the family lived with the maternal grandfather, Edward H.
Kraus, on Evesham Avenue in Voorhees Township NJ, near the corner of
Ebert Avenue. Oscar Letts Jr. was a member of the Collingswood High
School Class of 1937, but he did not graduate from that school. He may
have been related also to Oscar R. Letts, in 1930 52 years of age, of
4222 Westfield Avenue, then a buyer for a factory.
Oscar R. Letts was a
member of the United States Navy. He was listed in the Collingswood High
School Honor Roll from World War II. This may be in error, as the Social
Security Death Index reports that Oscar R. Letts died December 20, 1998
in Palm Coast FL.
