CHIEF MACHINIST'S MATE OLE DANIEL JOHNSON was a former power engineer at New Castle PA, and for the Potomac Power and Electric Company in Washington DC, before enlisting in the United States Navy on August 22, 1932. He served for four years, and re-enlisted for another two at Cincinnati OH in 1936. He was discharged at San Diego CA on August 18, 1938. On May 14, 1941 Ole Johnson enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve. He was last home on June 9, 1942, before going off to his assignment, a cargo ship in the Pacific. In a letter to his wife, Ann Johnson sent in November of 1942, he wrote that he had been recommended for a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Chief Johnson was reported as missing in action on December 31, 1942. The Navy declared him dead in the casualty list released on March 24, 1944. Ole Johnson had lived on First Avenue in West Berlin NJ. He was survived by his wife, who had moved to Bethel Avenue in West Berlin. |
