PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JOSEPH R. ADOLPH was born in Pennsylvania in 1919 to John and Johanna Adolf. The Adolfs had come to America in 1910. John Adolph was a baker. The family owned a home on East Crestwood Avenue in Somerdale NJ. By 1930 Joseph had two brothers, John and Adam, and a sister, Anna. Joseph Adolf left school after one year of high school. When he entered the Army on February 6, 1944 at Fort Dix NJ he was married, and had been working as a machine operator.

Joseph Adolf was killed in action in Germany on February 26, 1945, three days after the 102nd Infantrey Division crossed the Roer River.
