PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JOHN L. STRAEHLE was born in Philadelphia PA in 1911 to Leo and Anna Straehle. His family moved to Magnolia NJ sometime before 1918. In 1920 they owned a home on Chestnut Avenue, at 375 . The family owned a home on Evesham Road in 1920, the purchased another home on Evesham Road sometime in the 1920s. Leo Straehle was a machinist, and John, the oldest son, followed him into that trade. John Straehle lived in Magnolia for 25 years before moving to Philadelphia PA with his wife Helen. An employee of the Tinius Olsen Testing Machine Company, he made his home at 2314 North Park Avenue in Philadelphia.

Private Straehle suffered a fatal heart attack on October 13, 1944 at Omaha NE. He was 33 years old. His death was reported in the October 19, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. Survived by his parents, wife, children Charles and Beverly, brothers Daniel and Joseph, and seven sisters. His funeral was held at a funeral home at 402 White Horse Pike in Haddon Heights NJ on October 20, 1944.
