GUNNER'S MATE JOHN J. SILVER was born in Pennsylvania about 1911, the eldest of three sons born to Edward and Anna Silver. The family moved to New Jersey by 1927. At the time of the 1930 Census, the Silver family was renting  home at 8264 Balfour Road in the Delair section of Pennsauken NJ. The elder Silver was working as a teamster. John J Silver, 18 at the time of the census, was working as truck helper for a local nursery. Besides John, the family included brothers Edward and Joseph.

John J. Silver killed in action on January 12, 1945 while serving in the Pacific. He was the husband of Carolyn Beatrice Silver, who was living at 212 West Broad Street in Palmyra NJ at the time of his death.

John J. Silver is memorialized at the Delair World War II Memorial on River Road in Pennsauken NJ.
