SERGEANT JOHN C. DUFFY was the only child of Joseph J. and Anna L. Duffy. He was born in Pennsylvania on May 21, 1922. The elder Duffy worked as a pharmacist in East Camden, not far from where the Duffy family lived, at 1507 48th Street in the Delaware Gardens neighborhood of Pennsauken NJ. The Duffy family had moved there by April of 1930. John Duffy enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1942. He was killed in action while serving America in Germany on March 19, 1945. He was survived by his parents, and an uncle, John Duffy, of Philadelphia. Sergeant Duffy was brought home to New Jersey, and buried at Arlington Cemetery on December 11, 1947. Sadly, Joseph Duffy died of a heart attack only nine days after his son's burial. Sergeant Duffy is memorialized at the Delaware Gardens War Memorial in Pennsauken NJ. |
