SERGEANT HENRY R. STABLES had lived in Delaware Township, present day Cherry Hill NJ. He had been inducted into the Army in 1942, and had qualified for flight duty. In 1943 he married Miss Emma Lederer, and had made his address 218 North Fellowship Road in Maple Shade NJ, the home of his in-laws. Sergeant Stables had won his wings and was undergoing further training when the B-25 bomber that he was a crew member of crashed during a combat training flight near the Army Air Base at Columbia SC. His wife was then living near the base in South Carolina when he was killed. A closed casket funeral was held for him at the Congregational Church at 45 North Fellowship Road in Maple Shade. His death was reported in the February 17, 1944 evening edition of the Camden Courier-Post. |
