PRIVATE FIRST CLASS GAETANO P. "THOMAS" CAPRIONI was born in New Jersey on November 29, 1921 to Divinangelo "David" Caprioni and his wife, the former Mary DiLorenzo. He was the oldest of the four Caprioni children, coming before Jacob, Splendora, and Dominic. David Caprioni was a farmer. The family in Middle Township in Cape May County, near Dennis in a section known as Belleplain. "Thomas" Caprioni attended Middle Township High School and worked on his father's farm before moving to the Camden area to take a job at the New York Shipbuilding Company shipyard as a welder.

Gaetano P. "Thomas" Caprioni was inducted into the United States Army on December 15, 1943 at Camden, New Jersey. He was assigned to the 134th Infantry Regimet, 35th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in France on September 29, 1944
