PRIVATE FIRST CLASS EDWARD
C. ANDERSON was born in 1913 to Edward & Carrie Anderson. In 1920
the Andersons were renting a home at 81 Grove Street in Haddonfield NJ,
the elder Anderson was then working as a trolley car motorman Besides
Edward, there was a daughter, Lillian. By 1930 Carrie Anderson and her
children had moved to 4742 Poplar Avenue in Pennsauken Township NJ. She
worked in a shoe factory, and young Edward, then 16, had found work as a
counterman in a retail grocery store. He later lived at 543
Newton
Avenue in Camden NJ prior to enlisting in the United States Army at
Fort Dix NJ on March 27, 1942. He was single, unmarried and had one year
of high school education when he enlisted.
Edward Anderson was a
ssigned to the 77th Infantry Division. He shipped
out with his unit in March of 1944. He trained with the 77th Infantry
division in Hawaii prior to the 77th's being committed to the invasion
of Guam.
Private
First Class Anderson was killed in action during the fighting on Guam on
July 27, 1944.
