PRIVATE FIRST CLASS WILLIAM A. HAND, JR., was born in Camden NJ in 1917 to William and Ava Hand. He was the third child, coming after sisters Margaret and Beryl. William Hand Sr. worked as a railroad locomotive engineer. William Hand Jr. attended Camden High School, and worked as an iron constructor before the war. He was inducted into the Army in February of 1941. William A. Hand Jr. was killed in action on October 2, 1944 serving with the 12th Engineer Combat Battalion, in support of the 8th Infantry Division. He was survived by his parents, of Fortescue NJ, and older sisters Mrs. Roland Coulborn and Mrs. Paul Houser, both of Summit NJ. After the War, William Hand was brought home to New Jersey. He was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville NJ. |
