FIRST CLASS WILLIAM GROOME was born in Philadelphia PA in 1916. He was killed in May of
1944
while serving in Italy. A former employee of the New York Shipbuilding
Company in Camden NJ, he was drafted on May 27, 1943 at Camden NJ. He entered the Army
in June of 1943, and had been
sent overseas in January 1944. He was survived by two brothers, Andrew,
of Camden NJ, and Samuel, of Pitman NJ, along with two sisters, Mrs.
Martha McDowell of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Parker Patterson, of 924
Broadway, Camden NJ. Private
Groome had lived for six years at 119
north 23rd street in
East
Camden.
After the war, his body was returned to the United States, and he was
buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly NJ on June 23, 1949.
