PRIVATE JOHN FALK FURER was born March 10, 1923
in Camden NJ, where he attended local schools, and graduated from Camden
High School in 1940, where he was on the Literary Staff all four years.
Growing up in the Parkside section, he lived at 1124
Langham
Avenue. He
was the son of Jacob L. Furer, a prominent Jewish attorney of that era,
a veteran of World War I, and a founding member of Tri-county Post 126 of the Jewish War Veterans.
This post was renamed in the spring of 1945 as the John F. Furer Post
126, and later again renamed as the Furer-Barag Post, to honor the
memory of Camden native Herbert
M. Barag, who also lost his life while serving America. John Falk
Furer attended the University of Arizona after graduating from High
School. He was inducted into the Army in 1943, after being rejected by
the Navy due to poor vision when he attempted to enlist.
Private John Furer died of wounds received in action in France while
serving with the 2nd Battalion 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry
Division, near Sainteny, France on July 10, 1944. His death was reported in the
August 24, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post.
