PRIVATE
THOMAS J. ALLEN JR., was the son of Thomas J. and Louetta (or Lenetta)
Allen, both natives of Virginia. His father worked as a carpenter, and
the family lived on Mansion Avenue in what was then Center Township, in
present day Lawnside NJ. He was called into
service in October 1917, and sent to Camp Hill VA, where he became a
member of Company I, 304th Stevedore Regiment. He sailed for France in
April 1918 and was transferred to Company M, 301st Stevedore Regiment, and later
to the
803rd
Stevedore Battalion.
Private
Allen was drowned in an accident in France
after serving in three battles in the war and escaped uninjured. His
death occurred at Bay City, France, April 25th, 1919. His was survived by his
parents,
brother, Samuel and Lynnewood, and sisters Margaret, and Gladys. The
family later moved to a house on Mouldy Road in Lawnside.
